Bishop Zendejas will be offering Mass outdoors near one of the Missions. We will be singing hymns, reciting the Rosary, and offering a pilgrimage to honor Christ the King and implore His mercy and graces. Updates and more details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Bishop Zendejas – On May 11th 2017, Fr. Gerardo Zendejas was consecrated a bishop by Bishops Richard Williamson, Jean-Michel Faure and Thomas Aquinas at St. Athanasius Chapel in Vienna, VA before a crowd of 400+ faithful. Ad multos annos! Viva Cristo Rey!

High Mass on May 24th – On Wednesday, May 24th (the day before Ascension Thursday, and the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians) at 4:00 PM, His Excellency, Bishop Zendejas will offer a High Mass at St. Dominic’s Chapel. During this Mass there will be a First Communion, and a May Crowning after Mass. There will also be a potluck as usual. Please join us to celebrate this special occasion with the new Bishop!

Stella Maris Chapel – La Marque, TX near Houston – Holy Week Schedule

Good News – We have been upgrading the altar and sanctuary. So far, the altar backdrop has been enlarged, and there is a nice wooden step under the altar complete with hardwood flooring. A new altar has been built; it only needs to be stained and decorated. A big “thank you” to all those who contributed to this project so far!

Stella Maris Chapel is the main chapel or headquarters for Fr. Zendejas’ apostolate in Texas. Fr. Zendejas and Fr. Garcia serve St. Dominic’s Chapel from their base at Stella Maris Chapel.

Mission Pilgrimage in October – on Saturday, October 22nd at 10:30 AM we will be making a pilgrimage to the San Antonio missions. Drivers and other volunteers needed. Please see Matthew for details.

High Mass – August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so we will be singing Mass IX (cum jubilo, “with joy”) for today’s Mass. Mass IX is typically used on feasts of Our Lady.
Festival Today – We are having our 2nd Annual Parish Festival in honor of St. Dominic today. Besides the usual High Mass and potluck, we will also have some games for the adults and children. Games will include saints trivia, musical chairs, tug-of-war, water balloons, etc. Please come and join the fun!

Chapel Bulletin – 7th Sunday after Pentecost – July 3, 2016

High Mass today – Today is the 1st Sunday of the month, so we will have a High Mass followed by a Potluck.
From the Choir – For the High Mass today, we will be singing Mass IV (Cunctipotens Genitor Deus) and Credo IV. The hymns for today’s Mass are all included in the flyers in the back of the chapel.
Hoping to Build an Altar – We are currently saving all available funds (from the Building Fund/Donation Can) to build a wooden altar for the chapel. The general goal is a custom-built wooden altar, about the size of our current makeshift altar, dark brown in color, with attractive, elaborate trim, which won’t require a veil to hang over the front to hide what is underneath. Perhaps engrave “Viva Cristo Rey” or “IHS” on the front of it. It will have extra depth towards the back, to add a “part 2” at a later date, which will rise upwards about six feet, mounted to the back of the altar. The altar will also have a place for an altar stone, and a means to secure the tabernacle to it. In any case, we will be keeping the dark brown “gradines” currently on the altar, as well as our large Crucifix.
Traditional Catholic question – Must any Traditional Latin Masses be offered under the auspices of an organization and/or with the approval of Rome? Answer: No. Regarding the question of Roman approval: Post-Vatican II Rome has become drunk with the heresy of Modernism, with the highest officials trying to destroy the Church with their own hands. The exact nature of this Crisis in the Church is mysterious, and we have to remember that God is in control. But what is certain is that we must keep and practice the Catholic Faith, and save our immortal souls here in 2016. We can’t wait for normal times to return. The Crisis is the Church has been ongoing for over 47 years now! Priests, bishops, and laymen must all do the right thing — with or without the permission of Rome. In the Catholic Church, “the highest law is the salvation of souls.” When Truth and Authority mysteriously split, we have no choice but to choose Truth — the only thing that will get us to heaven. Jesus Christ is the Truth. As for the question of an organization, that is more or less irrelevant. The only real issue is authority/jurisdiction, and the Catholic Church provides us “supplied jurisdiction” during emergency situations like the one we are living in today. Unless a given organization has been approved by Rome, it has the same standing as any individual Traditional Catholic priest offering the Tridentine Mass without Rome’s permission. The only difference is that an organization has many priests, while the individual priest is alone. But, in reality, both are equally legitimate given the emergency situation we are in.

High Mass next week – Next Sunday is the 1st Sunday of the month, so we will have a High Mass followed by a Potluck.
SSPX Superiors Meeting – Though they wish to keep it a secret, the SSPX superiors are in fact having a meeting June 26-28 in Switzerland, during which they will discuss the latest proposal from Rome for a practical agreement. Apparently they were so keen on secrecy that they forgot a basic Catholic behavior: while considering such an important and far-reaching decision, they should solicit the prayers of the Faithful.
Traditional Catholicism 101 – Traditional Catholics are those who love the Catholic Faith and doctrine, and want to remain faithful during this unprecedented Crisis in the Church. And what is the Crisis? That truth and authority are at odds with each other! We must choose “truth”, because we have to keep the Faith and save our souls. Therefore we leave our local parishes (which have authority over us, from the Pope down through our local bishops) and seek out priests with valid orders who will offer 100% certain Masses and preach only pre-Vatican II, error-free Catholic doctrine. Catholics have a right to doubt-free Masses and Sacraments; this is the primary principle of the Traditional movement. An “indult” or permission from the Pope or local bishop is not necessary. The encyclical “Quo Primum” of Pope St. Pius V states that the Tridentine Mass can be offered by any priest, and attended by any Catholic, without scruple (i.e., concern that he is doing something wrong).
Over 13 Months of Masses – Frs. Zendejas and Garcia have been making the 3 1/4 to 4 1/2 hour trip from Houston to Seguin every Sunday for over 13 months now! (since May 10, 2015.) During that time, they only missed one Sunday, when Bishop Faure visited the United States last November. We are most grateful to our priests for their dedication in making the drive here every Sunday.

For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. Feast of the Sacred Heart – Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The actual Feast was Friday, June 3rd.
High Mass – We will have a High Mass today, this being the 1st Sunday of the month. Taking the lead from a traditional Seminary (which offered a High Mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart every First Friday), we will use Gregorian chant Mass XII “Pater cuncta”.

Bishop Williamson coming to St. Dominic’s – Next Sunday, May 22nd, His Excellency Bishop Richard Williamson will be offering a High Mass at St. Dominic’s. There will be a potluck afterwards. His Excellency hasn’t been to the San Antonio area since 2005. This is an excellent opportunity to meet him and hear him in person!

May Crowning and First Communions – Today is Mothers’ Day. In honor of Our Blessed Mother, there will be a short procession and May Crowning after Mass today. There will also be 2 First Communions!
Mothers’ Day – We would like to wish all mothers a very happy Mothers’ Day! Fr. Zendejas said we should especially pray for our mothers and grandmothers in the weeks before Mothers’ Day.

We had a beautiful High Mass about two weeks ago.

It all came together —

* the singing (including Fr. Garcia, who has a good singing voice)
* the High Mass itself, said with strict attention to the Rubrics.
* the Mass server is quite a professional, even in the role of MC at High Mass
* the choir, the organist
* the beautiful Easter hymns – Regina Caeli Jubila, Hail True Victim Life and Light, Jesus Christ is Risen Today, Salve Festa Dies, Vidi Aquam
* the Paschal candle lit, along with the other 6 candles on the altar
* Sweet-smelling incense
* the Easter lilies were still mostly alive, plus we have artificial white flowers to supplement. We also had real pink roses for the Blessed Mother statue.

I don’t think it was a coincidence that Fr. Garcia mentioned during his sermon “the material things of the Liturgy”. He talked about the symbolism of incense, he mentioned chant and other elements we see and hear at Mass. I suppose he found the Mass to be beautiful as well!

Bishop Faure Visit – The Sunday after Thanksgiving (November 29th) there will not be Mass at St. Dominic’s; everyone is invited to attend Bp. Faure’s Mass at Stella Maris Chapel, 1131 Delaney Rd, La Marque, TX 77568 (outside Houston) at 9:30 AM, followed by a reception and conference. Bp. Faure was consecrated by Bp. Williamson earlier this year.

Catholic Faith Question – How many religious sisters were there in the United States in 1965 vs. 2014? Last week’s question: When was the Feast of Christ the King instituted? The Feast of Christ the King was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI.

High Mass on October 4th, 2015 – 19th Sunday after Pentecost

Catholics from a large radius around San Antonio, from as far away as Austin, Georgetown, Seguin, Columbus and Bandera came to St. Dominic’s Chapel on the first Sunday of October for our monthly High Mass. And, of course, Fr. Zendejas came all the way from Houston! This was also a special occasion, as it was the first time our new volunteer organist, a boy just 9 years old, played organ accompaniment during Mass. Catechism Classes – Catechism classes have started. There are two classes available. Adults are welcome to attend the upper class, held in the chapel. The class for First Communion and younger children is held in the house. Catechism will run from 2:30 to 3:15 each Sunday.

High Mass Next Week – Next week will be the 1st Sunday of the month, so we will have a High Mass. We will sing Mass XI (Orbis Factor), Credo IV, and various traditional Catholic hymns for the processional, recessional, offertory and communion.

Potluck Next Week – We will have a Potluck after the High Mass next Sunday.

There will be a small celebration after Mass next Sunday, August 2nd, to celebrate the feast day of our chapel’s patron, St. Dominic! His feast day is August 4th (at least in the Traditional 1962 liturgical church calendar), which falls on a Tuesday this year. All faithful Catholics in the San Antonio and Austin areas are welcome to come and join us in our celebration!

St. Dominic received for the Catholic Church the Holy Rosary from the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This was to be an extraordinary and powerful spiritual weapon in the centuries to come, as millions of Rosaries were prayed in churches all over the world. The Order he founded, the Dominicans, put up a firm resistance to, and even destroyed, the Albigensian heresy. His Order of Friars Preachers laid the foundation for spiritual and intellectual giants such as St. Thomas Aquinas.

August 2nd also happens to be the 1st Sunday of the month, so we will be having a High Mass as usual at our chapel. (We have High Mass every 1st Sunday of the month, and Benediction after Mass on every 3rd Sunday of the month.) We look forward to a large turnout from Austin, San Antonio, Bandera, Columbus, and other cities.

We will have a few more people than usual, coming from as far away as Austin, Georgetown, and Columbus.

High Mass and Benediction – We are tentatively planning to have a Sung Mass on the 1st Sunday of each month, plus Benediction after Mass on one of the other Sundays. Stay tuned for more details.

Ready for Summer – We’ve installed a new, larger 25000 BTU air conditioner in the chapel. After trying it out last Sunday, it looks like we’re all set to stay comfortable during the hot Texas Summer! San Antonio doesn’t have a reputation for mild summers. Donations to help cover this expense can be placed in the donation can near the door of the chapel.
